AN EXCEPTIONAL TERROIR
THIS MYTHICAL ESTATE COMBINES
An exceptional biotope : a combination of an extreme climate and the calcareous schist soil. This is the kingdom of Grenache – ancient clones that have preserved their genetic material intact.
A historical heritage: the diversity of the plots, combined with the remarkable biotope, gives the wines aromatic complexity.
Mas Amiel has proved to be an exceptional terroir for fine dry wines like “Origine” and “Oiseau Rare” thanks to its rare and exceptional hundred-year-old Grenache and Carignan vines.
A fierce conviction: the use of biodynamics to preserve the health of the vine and its environment. Only biodynamic agriculture can enhance the full potential of the terroir.
UNDER THE GAZE OF THE TEMPLARS
At the gates of Cathar country
At the gates of the Cathar Country, in the heart of the Agly valley, Mas
Amiel is protected by the impressive ruins of the old Cathar citadel QUÉRIBUS and by the Corbières mountain chain to the north, and by the first foothills of the Pyrenees in the south.
The 100 hectares of the vineyard can be spotted from far away thanks to
its initials engraved on the hillside. Its climate is unique in France: 260 days of sunshine and only 370 mm of rain per year.
IN THE SOUTH OF FRANCE, NORTHERN CATALONIA
à 30km de Perpignan
The Mas Amiel estate is in the South of France, in the heart of Roussillon (French part of Catalunya) in the commune of Maury, 30 km northwest of Perpignan. Recognized worldwide for its fortified wines, the estate creates its blends with a majority of Grenache under the appellations of Côtes du Roussillon and Maury.
THE GLASS DEMI-JOHNS PARK
Unique and historical know-how
The estate is immediately recognizable by its Glass Demi- Johns Park. These large glass bottles known as "Dame Jeanne" of 60 Liters is the heritage of an ancestral technique of oxidative ageing. Here rest “les Vins Doux Naturels” which is an official French appellation for fortified wines. They spend a year outside exposed to the sun and temperature changes and evolve towards rancio notes.
THE OLD CELLAR
Bicentennial oak casks
How can you not be captivated by these wooden giants that stand 10 meters high at the entrance to the old cellar! It is there, in these casks dating from 1890, that the oxidative wines sleep peacefully for many years and give birth to treasures of finesse and complexity.
