AN EXCEPTIONAL TERROIR

Nestled in the heart ofthe Agly Valley

The MAS AMIEL vineyard is located on
the slopes of the valley surrounded by two limestone massifs and is divided
into several plots. This vineyard represents a true wine-growing heritage: diversity of terroirs, landscapes and grape varieties.

THE DIVERSITY OF THE PLOTS

GUARANTOR OF THE COMPLEXITY OF THE WINES

Sunny, warm and windy
terroir of MAS AMIEL reunites all the conditions to make great wines. The wines have a real signature, full of freshness and aromas.
South-east exposure of most of the
parcels of Mas Amiel vineyard protects the vines from the harsh afternoon sun.

Despite the southern heat, the nights are cool, especially by the end of the growing season. The valley guides the cold air from the Pyrenees, accelerated by the phenomenon of Tramontane wind. These cooling conditions allow for a slow and qualitative maturation.

SOILS OF CALCOSCHISTES

A NATURAL BALANCE

The schists of MAS AMIEL estate are unique. They have calcareous inclusions: calcareous schists! The soils from the decomposed calcareous
schists are thick, a kind of gravel mixed with little clay, sitting on a bedrock where the roots can penetrate into it.

The subsoil is permeable to the roots that easily slide into the cracks and find a good water supply. All these soils are poor and filtering, they store heat, but the depth of rooting system is a guarantee of freshness and a strong mineral symbiosis. The ripeness is perfectly controlled and balanced.

CENTURY-OLD VINES

OUTSTANDING RESISTANCE TO WATER STRESS

Deep rooting system and a good
mineral symbiosis ensure a good water supply for the plant and therefore for
the grapes. Only by uniting these conditions can we obtain the aromatic depth and a long finish in wine. The oldest vines of MAS AMIEL are more than a hundred years old (from 1914) and many of the plots have reached the age of more than 50 years!

THE EXTRAORDINARY DIVERSITY OF TERROIRS

The MAS AMIEL estate covers more
than 100 hectares with a unique diversity of microclimates and terroirs. Discover some of the most iconic plots that have given birth to our single vineyard cuvées Terres Rares.

CROIX D'EN RODRIGUES PLOT

Altitude 433

Grenache and Lladoner Pelut thrive on granite. The soils are composed of granite arenas, gneiss and mica schists. There is a link between all the terroirs and soils of Mas Amiel: the "multi layered " rocks of which they are composed. Mica-schist and altitude give this inimitable brilliance to the ALTITUDE 433 m cuvée. Here, the character of this rocky soil is unmistakably expressed in the glass.

PLOT OF MAS LAS FREDES

Altaïr white wine

The terroir of MAS LAS FREDES is a true oasis of minerality. It consists primarily of calcareous schists, complemented by thin layers of limestone and clay. It is here, in this place, that the old vines of Grenache Gris of the ALTAIR plot grow and flourish. They reveal here the perfect symbiosis between the grape variety and the terroir.

PLOT SAINTE EUGÉNIE 1900

Vol de Nuit

VOL DE NUIT is the result of three plots planted with very old Carignans from 1900 to 1925.The terroirs are formed of rankers (or mounds) of layered schists and mica schists. Light stony soils are very well draining. It’s here, rooted in the depths of these schists that these old Carignans reveal their aromatic and mineral complexity with profound concentration.
