Above Domaine MAS AMIEL’s low-lying terrain, a bird of prey’s audible and repetitive cry breaks the silence. Wild and discrete, Bonelli’s eagle loves the sunshine, the heat and MAS AMIEL’s open spaces and good exposure. Along the lines of this magnificent creature, rare but not an endangered species, MAS AMIEL boasts a conservatory of top-quality old GRENACHES

The art of blending reveals the heart of the terroir. MAS AMIEL has focused on the art of blending carefully selected plots and grape varieties, which are the endless source of inspiration. The synergy between Grenache, Carignan and calcareous schist provides OISEAU RARE with a unique form of complexity.

OISEAU RARE is the accomplishment of 20 years’ experience of organic and biodynamic farming.

TASTING NOTES:

MAS AMIEL’s emblem, OISEAU RARE, is pure, precise and dynamic. The characteristics associated with Grenache come immediately to the fore with fresh and juicy aromas of grapes, followed by a basket of fresh strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. This is a fragrant wine where notes of dried rose petals combine with wild cherries and rockrose. It then offers a trip into a sappier, aniseed and mentholated universe. Multi-dimensional like origami, this wine’s fruity palate is creamy and mouth-watering with finely grained tannins. The mineral taste is therefore offered by the terroir’s rocky terrain. OISEAU RARE is emblematic of the identity and style of the old Grenaches at MAS AMIEL estate.

FOOD PAIRINGS :

Perfect match with tagine, beef stew and monkfish roasted with smoked bacon.

TERROIR AND VINE MANAGEMENT :

OISEAU RARE reflects at once the landscape and the terroir of MAS AMIEL. Like an origami, it sums up an array of vineyard plots. With its perfect selection of the different terroirs, MAS AMIEL asserts a pure, precise, complex and energetic style.
The Old Grenaches from our conservatory plots are trained with Goblet system.
A generation of organic and biodynamic growing was required to reveal the location’s natural balance. Our approach to agriculture, organic and biodynamic practices aims to create a wine reflecting the schist terroir.

GRAPE VARIETIES:

Our heritage, a conservatory of old Grenaches, the oldest of which date back to 1914, is MAS AMIEL’s pride and joy. We are committed to the transmission and the consolidation of their identity across generations.

GRAPE HARVEST:

Hand-picked, manual double sorting of the grape bunches on a conveyor belt and a vibrating table, destemming.

WINEMAKING :

Plot by plot wine making in stainless steel vats. Natural yeast, without winemaking additives or SO2. Gentle winemaking with an infusion, entirely respecting the textures of the fruit and the soil.

MATURATION AND BOTTLING:

Maturing in concrete vats until bottling without any addition of SO2. Very light SO2 adjustment just before bottling.

GUARD TIME:

5 to 10 Years

JAMES SUCKLING.COM

Aromas of dark plums, racy wild blueberries, strawberries with dried herbs and cured meat. It’s medium-to full-bodied with fine tannins. Elegant and transparent, yet full of characters with mineral, raspberries and cherries on the palate. Vibrant finish accentuated by clarity and purity. From biodynamic and organic grapes. Delicious now, why wait?

17.5/20

JANCIS ROBINSON

A soaring wine of rain and rocks and roses. It fills the mouth vertically and then wide, like choral music filling the high vault of a cathedral. Delicate dryness in the tannins brings breath and pauses, increasing the tension and lengthening the echo of its harmonies. Real purity and purpose.

GUIDE TO THE FRENCH WINE REVIEW 2023

On the red side, Oiseau Rare is an originality combining Grenache, Carménère and a hint of Syrah. A fairly rich wine in terms of touch, with peppery notes.
